Citizen Science

In citizen science projects, we actively conduct research together with interested citizens on topics relevant to society. in our projects, citizens are involved in a participatory manner to varying degrees - from observing and taking measurements to co-creative work.

  • #SocialMediaHistory - History on Instagram and TikTok
    We would like to highlight particularly successful, fact-based and diverse examples of history narratives in social media and encourage people to look critically at history representations in social media. And we want to inspire them to become explorative storytellers themselves.
  • Plastic Pirates - Go Europe!
    Germany, Portugal and Slovenia are particularly committed to clean seas, flowing waters and water-related nature as part of their joint trio presidency of the Council of the European Union 2020/2021. At the same time, school classes and youth groups are called upon to collect plastic waste on the banks of rivers and streams, to document the different types of plastic waste collected at different locations along a river section, and to actively support research with this transnational citizen science action.

    Citizen Science on water quality in the last meter. A lot can happen to drinking water between the house connection and the tap. Bochum residents themselves are investigating how its quality changes in the process.
  • Fish after jellyfish galaxies
    Are you interested in astronomy? Here you can participate in a project and help our astronomers to identify "jellyfish galaxies".
