Our mission
Universities play an outstanding role in the further development of society. As a research-intensive comprehensive university, Ruhr University Bochum has enormous potential to make a significant contribution to meeting major societal challenges.
Knowledge from Ruhr University already shapes and influences the everyday lives and working environments of many people today. We want to write more success stories here and make them visible to the outside world. A good reason for us to expand our efforts in the transfer area in the future.
With this transfer strategy, published 2026, Ruhr University Bochum is building on its motto "Built to Change" and reaffirming its claim to make a significant contribution to overcoming major societal challenges as a comprehensive university with a strong research focus. The focus of this strategy is on strengthening knowledge and technology transfer in all subject groups at the university and establishing it as a core task in the long term.
From May 2021 to January 2022, a transfer mission statement for RUB was developed in a university-wide process. The mission statement provides insight into RUB's self-image and its principles of action. It also shows the main fields of action in the transfer area in which RUB actors are already active today.
In the period from April 2020 to January 2022, an IP and exploitation strategy was developed for RUB with the aim of creating more transparency for scientists and external stakeholders on how RUB exploits the results of scientific work and in particular intellectual property.
Free access to scientific results and materials is particularly important to RUB. In June 2022, the RUB Senate adopted a university-wide Open Science Policy. In it, the university officially commits to removing financial, technical or legal barriers wherever possible to enable open access to science.
