The events are aimed at all interested people in Bochum. Throughout the year, citizens can join experts at exciting events to explore the infinite reaches of our cosmos. Researchers from different disciplines invite the public to understand, explore and marvel at their scientific findings together. Among other things, workshops, readings, exhibitions, film screenings, artistic events and musical performances are offered.
Start with astronaut
To mark the start of the Year of Science, the kick-off event took place at the Planetarium Bochum on February 11, 2023. During the event, the topics and highlights of the Year of Science in Bochum were presented. As a special guest, the former ESA astronaut Gerhard Thiele was on site. He provided insights into space travel in a conversation with Prof. Dr. Susanne Hüttemeister, director of the Bochum Planetarium.
Weeks of the Universe
The highlight of the Year of Science in Bochum will be the "Weeks of the Universe" (June 27 to July 14, 2023). During these weeks, the planets of our solar system will be presented and made visible in downtown Bochum. Mars will play a central role in this in the form of the traveling exhibition "Mars takes place". Around the Christuskirche on the Square of the European Promise, there will be the Planet Weekend from June 29 to July 2. There, among other things, Bochum educational institutions will present their research at the "Market of the Universe." The Science Year 2023 will end in Bochum with a closing ceremony at the Mining Museum.
