Lively exchange
On 11,000 square meters over five floors, a new place of encounter and education, participation, knowledge exchange and a place for the senses and shopping enjoyment is being created in Bochum's city centre.
The House of Knowledge integrates the city library, the adult education center and the services offered by UniverCity, the association of Bochum's seven universities, to which Ruhr University Bochum belongs. It will also feature a market hall and a rooftop park.
Knowledge is the central theme in this building - everyone involved will contribute ideas, concepts and services. And not side by side, but with a joint program and an idea that goes beyond the power of what individual areas can achieve.
The result is an open, metropolitan, highly digitized meeting place that sets standards for lifelong learning, experience and discovery. Here, researchers can interact with citizens and develop and work on questions and projects together.
The building is scheduled for completion at the end of June 2027.
Even during the construction phase, the participants develop a program that is open to all interested parties.
The House of Knowledge appeals to all generations, social classes and ethnicities. The atmosphere is pleasant in the best sense of the word and the focus is on people. Not only the existing visitors to the adult education center and the central library (together around 800,000 people per year), but also new target groups should be encouraged to take advantage of this building and its offerings and actively participate. Added to this are the customers who perceive the market hall and the roof park as an attractive place to enjoy and experience. Ideally, this appeal should extend beyond Bochum.
